Reborning – Is it a Good Thing?
If you’re not familiar with the term “reborning” then you have probably not been exposed to one of the most amazing types of doll baby ever created. While most dolls have some similar features to a living human infant, a high quality reborn doll is strikingly life-like. People are frequently fooled when they see one of these dolls being pushed in a stroller or being buckled into a car seat by their “mothers.” But the question isn’t whether or not these very real baby dolls are going to fool someone, instead the question is whether or not they are good for the person who purchases them.
Advantages of the Reborn Baby
Women purchase these dolls for many reasons. Some women simply love collecting dolls and find the life-like quality of these reborn baby dolls to be irresistible despite their price tag. These collectors sometimes have dozens of the dolls in their homes. And it’s easy to do that because each doll can be custom-made with the features you want. You can have the eyes open, you can choose hair types, and you can even choose the baby’s weight. Birth marks can be added and so can a breathing feature which, as you might imagine, adds to the doll’s realism. Unlike mass produced dolls, these exquisite babies are each unique and one-of-a-kind just like a real child.
Another advantage of the reborn baby is that its realism can help some women get through difficult times. Women who have lost children or who have been unable to conceive can sometimes find solace in owning one of these beautiful dolls. Because they can be created to your specifications, some women have brought in photographs of their deceased children as infants to have their likeness captured on the doll. In these cases, the dolls can help the women get through the grieving process or the depression that comes with not being able to have your own children.
Because of the reborn doll’s cost, these are not usually appropriate for children. However, some parents have purchased them for their children as a very special gift.
Disadvantages of the Reborn Doll
Despite the advantages and benefits people receive from these very unique dolls, there are some drawbacks. Of course, price is one of the biggest. Because they are custom-made from very high quality materials, the price reflects this reality. However, the price does mean some people simply won’t be able to afford them.
Another potential drawback is that some people can get too involved in the baby’s realism. Some of the women who have purchased the dolls become very obsessive about them and treat them as if they were real children. While that may not be a bad thing on a temporary basis, it can become a serious problem if it goes on for too long. Thankfully, this is not a common occurrence but it can happen, especially for women who are using the dolls to help them cope with loss.
